Minnesota School of Horseshoeing Two Week Hoof Care Program for Horse Owners This course is designed for people interested in learning the basics in trimming and shoeing their own horses. Most of the class time will be spent working with live horses, developing skills that are most beneficial to you. There is no substitute for actual hands on learning and you will have plenty of live horses to work with. Emphasis will be placed on balanced trimming and shoeing with ready made shoes. The course will include proper horse handling, correct hoof preperation, shaping, nailing, and finishing. It is our goal to introduce you, the horse owner, to horse anatomy so you may effectively communicate with your farrier or veterinarian. We will cover physiology, beginning equine anatomy, bones and joints of the limbs, tendons and ligaments of the limbs, and sensitive hoof structures.
